Digipix Axis Digital Camera (1999)
Announced by Hanimex on 1999/03/19. The camera was released on 1999/04/01 in three different colors (red, green and blue according to press release but a press foto indicates a dark grey version). The entry level camera was dubbed "DigiPix AXIS". This Minton clone was especially interesting because it was not only marketed exclusively in Australia only but it also came in three different colors. Since this was 1999 it perfectly fits our portfolio and we are obliged we could obtain this very rare camera.
Of course, like all Minton clones, the camera had poor image quality although Hanimex claimed that "anything from 20cm on will turn out fine". Also, I came upon some information that this camera did not have an electronic shutter but a mechanical one, driven by a solenoid! Anyway, Hanimex went on to market some more cheap taiwanese digital camera clones after this but nothing worth mentioning. As with most of these clones it only works with a 2MB Smart Media card.
