Praktica PD-100 (1997)
This rare beauty surfaced only a few months ago. It was donated to the museum by esteemed colleague Dr. Baedeker. Three things are noticeable about this camera. First of all, it was apparently only sold in the UK and nowhere else, which is pretty odd for a german camera manufacturer. Secondly, it's Praktica's first digital camera on the market. Not the QD-500 as we all assumed! No, it's this one. Thirdly, Praktica did not even bother to re-label the camera at the bottom! There is still the original OEM label "Premier DC-300", which was the basic model for this one and many other OEM cameras.
There was a test of this camera in british Independent Magazine of March 1998. They claimed that the camera sold for 299 GBP in the UK. The test result was devastating, the picture quality was "terrible" and the device acted like a "very, very limited camera". So if anyone can dig up more information, I'd be happy to hear from you. Oh, one more thing, there are rumours out there about a Praktica PD-600 digital camera. If anyone has picture material of that one, please feel free to share it!
Fixed focus, self-timer, built-in flash, LCD screen, macro function and video output. The camera was made by Premier Imaging Technology, a taiwanese manufacturer.
