Silicon Film EFS-4 (2002)

We've learned that it's predecessor EFS-1 was never shipped due to all sorts of problems and was only delivered to BETA-testers. Having found an investor, Silicon Films began planning "the next best thing", the EFS4-SF. The second generation (e)Film cartridge was announced at the Photokina 2002 and yet again sparked hope among camera enthusiasts. Apart from a totally staged design photo and some pre-taken pictures there was nothing to see at their booth. According to the website the cartridge should consist of a 4.2 MP imager, a LCD screen and a Compact Flash card slot as well as an external power connector. At that time, technically nearly impossible to realize. Having no product to show for this was the end of Silicon Films (at least in the imaging industry).

Not to be confused with the RE-35 digital cartridge, that one too is a hoax!
