Toshiba Digital Eye prototype (1997)

In 1997 Toshiba had built a new 1.3MP CMOS sensor. CMOS imagers for digital cameras were new and Toshiba thought this imager would have a high impact in the digital camera sector. To support their CMOS imager they built a protoype around it. The digital eye as it was dubbed. It consisted of said 1.3MP CMOS sensor and featured a SmartMedia drive. This is the first time I have heard of this prototype which means that it has not been disclosed to the public.
