Olympus C-420L (1997)
The Olympus C-420L was announced on 1997-06-19, together with the Olympus C-820L. According to Olympus they both were the world's first two digital cameras with function mode. The US model name was D-220L. The internal memory was scrapped and the camera now had the possibility to store images on Smart Media cards. The C-420L had the best image quality in the VGA class according to Olympus. The body was silver colored whereas the C-820L was champagne colored. Apart from that the only difference was that the C-820L had a bigger sensor.
