Sharp VE-LC1 (1997)

On 1997-03-10 Sharp introduced the VE-LC1, their second digital camera and a completely different model then it's predecessor the VE-LS5. The camera was a brand new design and less bulky thus more compact. One of the major changes was the 270° swivel lens that was firmly integrated into the body (as opposed to the attached swivel lenses Casio used). The camera also featured some nice features like a large 2.5" LCD screen, a built-in infrared port, a video out connector but no built-in flash unfortunately. Sharp also included an infrared adapter for personal computers along with the camera. Because of it's compact size the camera did not have a memory card slot. This camera can occassionaly be found on certain auction platforms. Cameras marketed outside of Japan had the model name VE-LC1S on the label at the bottom.

The VE-LC1 won a Good Design Award in 1997.
