NASA F4 Electronic Still Camera (© Timm Chapman/Onevisionphotography.com)

Nasa Nikon F4 electronic still camera (1987)

This was one of the first fully digital cameras. Custom built by Nikon (F4 body) and NASA (electronics). Designed in 1987 and on it's first mission aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery in 1991.. The camera had an electronics box and was sometimes used with the HERCULES system (Hand-held Earth-oriented Real-time Cooperative, User-friendly, Location, targeting, and Environmental System). This is one of the silliest abbreviations I've ever seen. Since there are some very, very good websites dedicated to this camera, I'll just skip more writing... Please visit Nikon Web and One Vision Photography for stunning details and pictures!

Also, there is an amazing video here which was provided by Ron Volmershausen: NASA F4
