NEC MX-V10 (1998)
The Pasomaru 1998 exhibition that took place in July 1998 in Tokyo unveiled a very, very special multimedia set from NEC. The entire system consisted of a TV, an internet terminal and a built-in but removable digital camera!
The entire system was dubbed MULCO. The idea was that you could have a carry around digital camera, take snapshots, plug the entire camera into the multimedia communicator MX-S10 like a videotape and via an on-screen menu edit your pictures, mail or post them. The terminal itself had a floppy disk drive so you could easily copy your pictures onto a regular 3.5" disk.
Plans were to market the terminal and the digital camera, or the digital camera alone. Prices ranged from $750 for the set and $550 for the camera. The terminal had a built-in 33.6kbps modem, web browser, mail client, microphone and remote control. When you take a good look at the digital camera you can see an eerie resemblence to the Sega Digio digital camera. One might actually think NEC OEM-built it for Sega.
