Nikon CoolPix 900 (1998)

The Nikon CoolPix 900 was the first in a series of successful Nikon digital cameras. The camera actually consisted of two parts, the camera body and the attached swivel lens. When put in it's upright position the camera seemed to be one unit. The CoolPix 900 was the result of listening to customers and an extraordinary evolution in digital camera design. The Coolpix 900 had virtually every feature a digital camera of that time should have. The swivel lens allowed you to take images from odd angles but with all swivel lenses had the problem of improper illumination of the scene because the flash could not be tilted.

Some of the features were a Nikkor lens with 3x optical zoom, macro mode, contrast detection mode, abberation correction, optical view finder, fast response LCD monitor, custom mode for manual adjustments and the possibility to connect it to a dedicated, mobile printer (Nikon NP-100). Shortly after market release, Nikon marketed the CoolPix 900S, an slighlty improved version of the CoolPix 900 with a flash sync connector. Early Nikon digital cameras are very popular so there are many great reviews about this camera on the internet.
