Nikon CoolPix 2000 (2002)

The Nikon CoolPix 2000 was announced 29.05.2002. A true mass market camera, ready for the post-millennium amateur photographers. The camera did not have any highlights. It still took 4 batteries and only had a 2 megapixel sensor. However, it was a very popular camera and did well. Nikon estimated a production volume of 80,000 units per month. Nikon designed and marketed this camera as a clean-and-simple, easy-to-use camera for every consumer. As one of the few major brands, they even offered a special LCD hood (HL-CP11) for the camera.

Nikon recalled a lot of CP 2000 cameras because of a faulty battery compartment which could overheat or short-circuit and cause a burn of the hand. As it turned out afterwards, no such case was ever reported anywhere in the world.
