Vivitar ViviCam 2000 (1997)

Vivitar demonstrated this model on the Comdex Fall '96 as the ViviCam 2000 although it was made by Mustek. Compared to other digital cameras from that year it simply featured nothing. No display, no strobe, no memory card slot, just basic features. It could however compete with other entry-level digital cameras. It just had enough internal memory to hold 10 images in high resolution. One thing however made this camera a total loss, its inability to cope with bright light. When the CCD got too much light, the image would break up and look rasterised like an interlaced image with disastrous effects for the image you actually wanted to take. On the plus side there was the video out port at the side of the camera which was unheard of in this price segment.

 

Please note that the camera label underneath reads "Vivitar VDC-100", a clear indicator that it was made by Mustek.
