Olympus VC-100 (1988)
The Olympus VC-100 was announced in 1988 and went on sale in 1991. Not to be confused with the V-100 which was the prototype for this camera. The VC-100 was Olympus commercial entry into the still video camera market. The camera allowed frame or field mode recording, had programmed auto-exposure, macro mode and allowed to record 5 or 15 fields per second. It could be hooked up to a Still Video Processor (VA-200).
It's not sure if the VC-100 and VA-200 were sold as a combo or apart. The VA-200 is a pretty amazing device. It's sort of a remote control for the VC-100. The VA-200 was hooked up to the VC-100 with a dedicated multi connector cable. It had a s-video and video in/out connectors. Once it was hooked up to the VC-100 and an external monitor, it allowed the user to review images from video floppy disks (that were inside the camera(, add a mosaic effect and show an index of all images taken on the video disk. By connecting an external video source it was also possible to review external material as well as adding effects.
In 1991 the VC-100 and the VA-200 won a Good Design Award by the way.
The camera was sold only in Japan.
